maybe it's because i have nothing else to do, i've had lots of time to think of useless things i can do. for example, i'm feeling scientific so i would like to perform an experiment.
objective
the purpose of this experiment is for my diaryland to get a high rating for a random phrase in google, even though my diaryland is in no way devoted to the phrase at hand. note: amar's diary has achieved this by accident with the phrase pirate lingo.
detailed approach
the phrase i have in mind is actually a person's name: "andrei morant." this choice of name is three-fold. one, it is the name of a real person. two, due to andrei being somewhat famous, there are already many sites on the google search results list and thus, may present more of a challenge to get on the search results list. and three, i've actually been wanting to meet him and have joked to many of my friends that he's the guy i'm going to marry so this choice of a phrase amuses me.
metric of success
if my diaryland page appears on the first page of google search results for "andrei morant", then i will consider this experiment a success. and if one day, i get an email from andrei morant asking me why the hell i'm using his name in an unauthorized manner, then i will consider this experiment an even bigger success. then promptly remove all mentions of his name. ;)
experiment log:
i will keep this section up to date with the latest observations, such as what i'm doing to try to get a higher google rating, if it worked, etc. if you have suggestions on things i can do to get a higher rating, please leave me a note!

this page was created. it mentions the phrase "andrei morant" several times.

my friends are the coolest. once they read about this little experiment, both jodo and amar immediately left me notes. they explained that from what they know, the way for me to get a high rating on google is to get others to link to this page using the text "andrei morant." jodo then also updated his diaryland to link to this page.

cosmo pointed out to me that this experiment will be quite challenging. since all the existing links on andrei are mostly record labels, which are frequently linked to and therefore, by google technology, deemed "more important." hmm...i will not give up yet though.

today, i saw that d has also linked to this page. as death cab for cutie says, "information travels faster in this modern age."
wow! another linker - thanks dan!
(5.21.2002)
i just noticed that amar also linked to me! maybe i overlooked that and it's been there for a while. but thanks dude!

nothing on the google front yet. maybe cosmo's right. also, i'm wondering how often the google spiders (or whatever they're called) crawl to this journal. i did a search on my own name and while it did hit this journal, the entry it hit was really old. hmmmm.
i'm doubtful this will make any difference but i added the text "andrei morant" to the title of the journal.

i'm currently in waiting mode. when i googled my user name 'angichau', the entry that shows up is still a much older entry, which leads me to believe that google is a few weeks behind as far as my diary is concerned. i'm waiting until their little crawlers come back here again and hopefully, crawl this page. so now, we wait...
also, popcore and captainb have linked to me! thanks!

oh glorious day! oh dear lady victory, thou dost smell so sweet!
in other words, our lovely experiment ACTUALLY WORKED!!! thank you so much, everyone!
and oh, mr. morant, please please do not sue me.
(6.11.2002)
i don't think mr. morant will sue me after all. the experiment was a success but a short-lived one. i am no longer on the google search results list for "andrei morant." ah well. and i was number two! TWO!
