i'm enjoying life in the new lab because
- going into lab is like going clubbing. minus the crazy lights, fog machines, availability of liquor, ... ok, it's not like going clubbing at all. the only similarity is that there is ALWAYS techno or house music blasting. this is what happens when you have a lab run by a young PI who doesn't care that his lab is being rowdy. every so often, someone would sneak in an indie rock song, and that would make me smile. besides, seeing people pipet and pour plates while gettin' down is always entertaining.
- the other girl in the lab has four cacti on her desk. they're the prettiest cacti ever.
- our PI just came back from africa and has been entertaining us with stories about lions and tigers and the people who hunt them.
- some of the discussions in the lab are so nerdy but still funny. today, a few of the guys spent a couple hours trying to figure out how they can design bacteria to produce THC in massive quantities.
in other news, the paper that i was supposed to write for my old lab is most likely not gonna happen. the frustrating thing is that i spent a lot of time writing out a 2nd draft. ah well. there are many more things i can say about this but i will spare you.
currently reading 'everything and more' by dfw. he somehow always manages to annoy and amuse me simultaneously (both here and in infinite jest) with his endless footnotes and particular writing style. but math is cool. and mathematicians are endlessly interesting. next book i want to read is the new murakami, but perhaps i want to wait until it comes out in paperback.
tahoe trip in two weeks. major decision: should i suck it up and try to snowboard again? try skiing for the first time? or accept that i'm wimpy, rent some snowshoes, and just go play in the snow?
