tired and sleepy and sleep-deprived and achy from a roadtrip back from tahoe...
i decided to suck it up and give snow sports another chance, so on saturday i bought a first-time skiier package. because we arrived sort of late, i didn't get to the front of the line until 10:10 and missed the 10:00 lesson. everyone else were intermediate-advanced level skiiers/boarders, so they all ditched me to start playing on the slopes (bastards). i then entertained myself at "base camp" for 2 hours until the 12:00 lesson started.
when lesson time came, i trudged up the hill to the ski schooling area. the instructor was about 100x better than the dude who tried to teach gigabit and me how to snowboard two years ago. also, i met this girl named dweepa and a nice couple at the lesson, so i had some people to talk to during the class. on top of that, you don't fall as much on skis (is it 'skis' or 'skiis'? maybe i'll just keep alternating the spelling as i please) as you do on snowboards, so all in all, i was enjoying myself. after the lesson ended, i met up with t for lunch and was planning on practicing some easy moves on the bunny slopes for the rest of the day. that was the plan, until i come back from lunch...
...and found that my skis are gone. gonegonegone. i left them on the rack by the main lodge before lunch and who the fuck took my rental skiis?? yes all the rental skis look the same but that's why they NUMBER them. when i went in to the rental shop to get help, they told me if i can't find them or the people who took them don't return them, i owe them $350. fun stuff. and if i want to rent another set of skis to play on for the rest of the afternoon, i would have to dish out the $350 right now. more fun stuff. i decided that even if i rented another set of skis, i wouldn't really enjoy myself anyway with this $350 weight hanging over me, so i had another 1.5 hours to waste before the rest of the group returned. at least t came back early when i called him with the fun news and we kept walking around the lodge looking for the skis.
by the time we were about to leave, my skis were still missing. the guy at the shop must have felt sorry for me because i looked like i was about to cry - he told me he won't charge me now and to call the next morning before 10am, because by then they will have most of their full inventory of skis and mine should be there. 'no one steals rental skis,' he assured me, 'this happens every day and 99.9% of the time, the skis show up so don't worry.' i tried to heed his advice but honestly, he's not the one who would have to dish out $350 for skis that he rented for the whole day but only used for 2 hours.
hot tub at the condo, rowdy game of taboo, couple bottles of wine, lasagna, fireplace, a fun doggie to play with ... that made the rest of the night better. that is, until i got into a fight with t at 3am, so i basically got two hours of sleep last night.
tahoe sucks...why does it hate me??
ok, i realize that it's not tahoe's fault that i had a bad weekend but if i'm gonna place the blame somewhere, i might as well place it on a geographical location, which as far as i know, has no feelings. and the skis did get returned when i called this morning, so at least i'm not grouchy AND poor.
