holy wow! there's a professor at caltech who publishes lots of cool papers related to synthetic biology, one of the areas i'm interested in. and i just found out that who i've been assuming to be some old male professor is actually a rather young FEMALE professor. that rocks! i guess it's kind of sad that it's so rare i see female professors that i just usually automatically assume the person is male, unless the name is obviously female. o well.

NSF screwed me again. this time, i was 'ineligible'...i'm shaking my fist at my EE masters degree as we speak.

weekend was both fun and worky. met up with some south bay kids friday night (whoa, i'm no longer a south bay kid) after a yummy sushi dinner at sushi-o-sushi, whose awesomeness gigabit has told me about many times. mmm. t and i even got two small pieces of some cucumber-instead-of-nori-wrapped roll and green tea ice cream for free. i'm such a sucker for sushi places that give you free stuff. then after, drinking from a beer-zooka, beating people at a snood-like game, and watching others play pingpong+air hockey -- good times.

saturday, t and i ate another new cuisine - ghanian - at a restaurant called tropical paradise. i've driven by this place on university in berkeley a couple of times and finally, curiosity won out. service was incredibly slow, but you really don't feel like complaining - the place is run by a family(?) of the most laidback, most smiley people on this earth. and on walking into the restaurant, it seems like everyone immediately adopts the same laidback, friendly attitude. the food was great and the homemade ginger fruit punch was awesome. they were playing a dvd of some live tribute to bob marley on one of the tvs, so of course, t was in heaven. after dinner, we met up with some bioEs for drinks+pool at thalassa and were witnesses to much drunken hilarity.

today was uneventful but not in a bad way. the weather was beautiful and it was fun just driving with all the windows down and the radio blasting.

yah.
