: : nyc 2005 : :

back from nyc for a couple of days before leaving for hk. nyc was hothothot and sweaty but overall mucho fun. my friend ji met up with me after a ridiculous 6-hour bus ride from boston. we ate lots (as you might have guessed), drank some, and walked lots. two old asian dudes at this sushi place even sent us a bottle of sake. kinda sketchy but hey, i'll drink free sake.

the reopened moma in manhattan rocked, with beautiful architecture and excellent collections. they had this giant 3-panel monet waterlilies that was incredible. also, all your must-haves in modern art: pollack, picasso, magritte, rothko, warhol, lichtenstein, etc. and then the new guys/girls of contemporary art, whom i don't know because i didn't take a class in it ha. yves klein's blue painting was there and the dude who slashes canvases. and one of my favorite pieces from the contemporary collection was this mirrored display of mirrored vases....ahh mirrors, so fun! so infinite!

there was also a whole floor dedicated to architecture and product design. apple products made a couple of appearances there. did you know there's this old rail line in nyc that's now defunct and got 'reclaimed by nature' so there are neat patches of weeds and stuff growing on the tracks??the city is trying to renovate it into some sort of public space. all the plans for that are there too as well as tiny models, as is required of all architectural exhibits.

places to go again: otafuku (takoyaki!), angel's share (shiso-infused vodka and lychee daiquiris), around the clock (cheap brunch foods), decibel (awesome sake bar), punch and judy (trendy wine bar/fondue place with very beautiful people), zen palate (fake meats). and one place i saw that i must try next time is a place called salt and bar. it has my name written all over it.
