neat stuff in the current issue of cell!!
some UCSF researchers discovered some of the proteins in the formation of the blood-brain barrier (in fruit flies, specificall) and also showed that these insulating proteins, especially one called moody (i love the gene names in the fruit fly community), are somehow involved in the behavioral response to psychoactive drugs such as cocaine, nicotine, and ethanol. what's more, mutant flies with increased sensitivity to cocaine and nicotine showed decreased sensitivity to ethanol.
ok, i will stop dorking out now
