: : tekka : :

tekka, tek ka, tek .... ka! apparently, when i try to say it like i would in japanese class, i say it like i'm doing martial arts. TEK! KA!

tkk and i went to tekka for dinner tonight as a belated bday dinner. one of tkk's friends recommended it at some point, so we decided to try it out. it's a tiny tiny place in inner richmond that seats about 10 people and is run by a husband+wife team. that's it. no dishwashers (the wife actually washes all the dishes herself), no credit cards.

in fact, they have a sign of their house rules, some of which i remember:

  • cash only
  • no complaining!
  • no forks
  • no to go
  • no tempura, no teriyaki

the last one is my favorite. anyway, the sushi was gi-normous and the cooked food was delicious. the husband makes the sushi and the wife makes all the cooked food. too cute. it's an izakaya-type restaurant, so they also pour ridiculous amounts of sake. i think i must have had ~3/4 pint of sake. whew. the weirdest part was they had this beegees reunion concert playing on a tiny tv. i still hear strains of "stayin' alive" in my head.

in conclusion, tekka: food = thumbs up, music = thumbs down (and weird).
